SW Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - I heard ("hee-u" call) in moderately dense lodgepole pine forest with a few Jeffrey Pines & Red Firs admixed. July 4 6800 ft., S of RR tracks, Norden, Placer Co., Calif. - "Hee-u" call heard July 5 7200 ft., 1 mi. W Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - I gave the long (9 a.m.) "yip-yip" series of calls from a tall Jeffrey Pine in open, +white fir pathy forest of same, on steep S-facing slope. Another flew over the area headed toward the "singing" bird. - Cise Grove, 5650 ft., on S fork Yuba River, Placer Co., Calif. - I heard call in Lodgepole - Jeffrey Pine forest near cottonwoods of riparian July 8 7200 ft., 1 mi. W Donner Pass (see above) - 2 seen, July 9 7800 ft., 1/2 mi. W High Meadow, Carson Range, El Dorado Co. Calif. - I in very open growth of pines, firs, & brush. July 10, 1/2 mi. E Boca Reservoir, 5600 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - I heard July 24) calling from Jeffrey pines in, arid forest of same.. on 34° July 23 8000+ ft., SE High Meadow, El Dorado Co., Calif. - I in open lodgepole pine - red firs - silver pine forest. July 25, 27 - "Signal Hill". 7200 ft., 1 mi. W Donner Pass (see above) - I heard July 28 5800 ft., Big Bend Camp Sld. [See p. 1] - 2 seen (I gave long "yip" series of calls) in tall, dense forest path near openings created by power line firebreaks & stream. Aug. 6 Carson City, Ormsby Co., Nev. - 2 heard (1 seen) in exotic trees planted in the Capitol plaza. Aug. 9 E base Mt Rose near Helena Cr., 6000+ ft., Washoe Co., Nev. I in open forest of Jeffrey pine on alluvial fan. Aug. 10 "Ice Lakes". 6900 ft., 3 mi W, 1 mi. S Donner Pass, Placer Co. Calif. I heard giving long series of "yip" calls in lodge pole pine forest.
