June 17 - near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 6950 ft., Placer Co., Calif. - A & was catching insects from among & on twigs of lodgepole pines & red firs well within dense forest, which is still with 2 to 5 ft. of snow underneath.
No males noted here or in meadow a few hundred feet away where they were common in 1948.
June 21 same area, 7050 ft., - I flew over open herb-s low shrub-covered slope of Disney Gk. (very few flowers out as yet, altho snow is melted at this point).
June 22 - 7000 ft., 3/4 mi. E Soda Springs, Nevada Co., Calif. - 1 seen on S W-facing slope in edge of aspen, cherry, buckble-berry oak, etc. thicket surrounded on 2 sides by fir clumps. A J was reported by R.R. Keys at Donner Lake also

July 3 near Sugar Bowl Lodge (see above) - 1? in willow thickets at edge of meadow some 150 ft. from conifer forest.
July 8 Cisco Grove, 5630 ft., on S. Fork Yuba R., Placer Co., Calif. - 1? seen closely (including tail) as she perched on willow twig fronting on open grassy gravelly flat. Flowers are very scarce here.
July 17 near Sugar Bowl Lodge. [see above] - 2 + 9? seen in willows of wet meadow & nearby fir forest.
July 22 Cisco Grove [see above] - 1? seen in a new black cottonwood trees (tall trees, but bird close to lower trunk).
July 27 "Signal Hill", 7100 ft., 3/4 mi. W Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. 1? seen at border of conifers, soft chaparral & herbs trail.
(see S. rufus also). She perched on Acer glabrum by J
Aug. 5 Cisco Grove [see above] - 1? (apparently the same one as before) in willows & cottonwoods along stream not seen closely this time, however.
