By Ed Welz & John Guest (Bakersfield) (Whittier) Aug. 16, 1950 - 10:00 to 12:00 A.M. (P.D.S.T.) Group A - Bird Study Weather - Clear, with streaks of clouds overhead; bright sunshine. Bird observed - Rufous Hummingbird Observations: 10:25 - Discovered bird feeding on columbine in open area to south of lodge, be- tween chair lift and stand of logdepole pine. Flew to perch at upper edge of area. Perch was bare branch of shrub about 3 ft. off ground. 10:27 - Left perch to chase another hummer Returned in about 15 sec. 10:28 - Chased another hummer. Returned to same perch. 10:31 - Flew toward observers; hovered near; flew to branch on pine tree about 12' high. Seemed to be watching observers. 10:32 - To bare twig in open field 12yds. from first perch. 10:34 - Returned to perch #1
