Cogswell 1950 Chlidonias niger (surinamensis) June 25 4980 ft. 1 mi. N Battle, Sierra Co., Calif - 1 full-breeding plumaged bird flew back & forth across the marshy meadow, here grown to short sedges & grasses & with open water, only in a few deep channels. There was, water among the sparse sedges, however. July 26 Little Washoe L. 5020 ft. Washoe Co., Nev. - 1, in changing plumage, was flying up & down over the open and weed-filled portions of this 40+ acre lake. In the weedy areas at several times it dropped to scoop something from the surface with its bill without diving at all.
