Recurvirostra americana
July 26 Little Washoe L., 5030 ft. Washoe Co., Nev. - 2 in
brading plumage foraging by picking & probing.
They were not noisily alarmed by our presence,
hence did not, I think, nest here.
Aug. 6 N. end Washoe L., 5010 ft. Washoe Co., Nev. - about
120 seen, in various plumages including
(perhaps) some immatures. Some were still
reluctant in their objections to our approach,
but all flew as a flock when we came
close.
This seems like the most likely
nesting area in Washoe Valley, since it is
marshy (now drying) with small ponds here
& there, & is relatively undisturbed.
Aug. 9 Little Washoe L., 5030 ft. Washoe Co., Nev. - about
10 on SE shore, accompanied by 1 Stilt
Aug. 23 - 4 in this same area.
