June 22, 5600 ft., ½ mi. N Boca, Nevada Co., Calif. – a pair "on territory"
June 28 at a 2+ acre wet seepage area in sagebrush flat.
June 25, 4980 ft., 1 mi. N Battley, Sierra Co., Calif. – a pair in wet grass+
sedge meadow of the broad Sierra Valley. parts of it visited.
June 27: Little Washoe Lake, 5020 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. – 1 pair with
3+ downy young and another pair with a NEST with
4 eggs on E shore of marshy south arm of lake.
The 2 pairs were not over 200 yards apart.
July 9, S end Lake Tahoe E of Camp Richardson, 6230 ft., Eldorado
Co., Calif. – 2 on sandy beach between marsh lake.
July 10 E side Boca Res., 5560 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. – 1 seen
on shore of reservoir by grassy swell
July 11 1 adult + ½ grown YOUNG seen in same area
as those of June 22, 28. This is several hundred
yards from the reservoir, but a trickle of water
runs along edge of the grassy area.
July 12: Little Washoe L., 5020 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. – close flock
of about 15 along sandy shore, no young or
separate pairs noted.
July 24 E side Boca Res. [see above] – 2
July 26 Little Washoe L., 5020 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. – about 40 pre-
sent, apparently some influx above breeding pop.
Aug. 1 E end L. Van Norden, 6760 ft., Placer Co., Calif: 2 foraging
on muddy shores of lake adjacent to meadow.
They do not breed at this altitude, more being
found here during earlier coverages this yr.
Aug. 6 W side Carson Valley, Douglas Co., & near Carson City,
Nev. – daily common on wet grassland.
