Cogswell 1950 Dendragapus obscurus [---] around dates = records of other observers. [July 6]-7100 ft. 1 1/2 mi. SW Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif - William Kirscher of Sacramento said that boy "Shaggy Dog", who accompanies hikers regularly near Sierra Bowl Lodge, flushed one (appx. a ?) from her8 slope into dense alder thicket in the draw between Disney & Cross West peaks. I went it with Bill there about 2 hrs. later but did not find. [July 13] 9000 ft. 1 1/4 mi. NW Job's Sister, Carson Range, Eldorado Co., Calif - 2 were flushed by Denis Cogswell & Tommy Harville in open fir & pine forest near upper limit of former & a few hundred feet (or yards ?) above a willow alder dotted meadow. [Aug. 3]-7800 +/- ft. 7/3 - 1 1/2 mi. SE Mt. Lincoln, Sierra crest, Placer Co., Calif - 2 & seen with families of 1/2 grown young, by Bessie Cogswell, Mrs. Triceles & others. [Aug. 4] S. side Donner L., 6000 ft. Nevada Co., Calif - ? and 4 young seen well by Margery Anthony and her plants class - the birds were in moderately dense conifer forest near an extensive seepage of water above the lake. Aug. 20 7100 ft. on road to Robertson Flat, in Sec. 32, T16 N, R14 E, Placer Co., Calif - 1 & with a 2/3 grown young were stalking along edge of road by scattered Ceanothus cordulatus in open area of fir & pine forest. They allowed approach to about 6 ft. then flew Aug. 23 Mt. Rose Rd, 6500 ft. E base Carson Range, Washoe Co., Nev. 1 imm., about 1/4 grown walking along paved road from which I flushed it but nearby Jeffrey pine.
