a marsh land of central part of open valley.
July 26 Little Washoe Lake, 5000 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. - 1 in ?
plumage beating over marshes S of lake at noon.
Aug. 6 N side Carson Valley near Reno, Douglas Co., Nev. - 1

Aug. 7 E side Boca Res., 5560 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 1 ?
flying low over a small grassy swale
adjacent sagebrush flats.
Aug. 9 Little Washoe L. [see above] - 1 over.
Aug. 21 Grosser Cr., 5700 ft., 1 1/3 mi. E, 3 1/2 mi. N Truckee, Nevada Co., Calif
2 (both dark plumage) flying over, 1 low over
the grassy valley, the other "travelling" fairly
fast across sagebrush or past scattered pines,
headed SSW.
Aug. 23 8800 ft., 2 1/2 mi. S, 1/2 mi. E Mt. Rose, Carson Range, Washoe Co.
Nev. - 1, in very bedraggled plumage, was riding
the stiff breeze over brush-covered slope
just S of the Mt. Rose - Slide Mtn. ridge.
Occurrence at this altitude must indicate
definite migration underway, at least altitudinally.
