Aug. 5 Stampede Val., 5700 ft., S.E. Sierra Co., Calif. - 1 (light phase)
standing on ground at crest of slight knoll in
rolling sagebrush flat with numerous grassy
swales (still wet, in part) and boulders here & there.
Aug. 9 Martis Val. [see p. 1] - 1 seen.
Aug. 17 C. end L. Van Norken, 6800 ft., Placer Co., Calif - 1 (light
phase) flew over broad meadow where one used
to be found regularly in summer of 1948. There
are lots of Bellings &d. Squirrels, Gophers, & mice.
-Little Truckee R. Val. near Stampede Val. [see above]
1 soaring over sagebrush, grassy swales
between and Jeffrey pine forested slopes.
