SSW Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. in early p.m., an adult flew low over the cleared ski slopes on N & NE face of Quincy Peak in front of lodge, which are now mostly free of snow. June 27 Geiger Grade, 5200+ ft., 2 mi. E Steamboat Springs, Washoe Co., Nev. an adult soared round & round over pinon-juniper woodland on W face of the foothills of Washoe Mts. June 29 Ice Lakes, 6900 ft., 2 mi. S Soda Springs, Placer Co., Calif - 1 flying northward over lodgepole pine-red fir forest near lakes meadow July 11 Sugar Bowl Lodge [see above] - 1 adult soaring over ski slopes bordered by patches of red fir- silver pine- lodgepole pine forest. July 12 8600 ft., 3/4 mi. E, 2 mi. S Mt. Rose, Carson Range, Washoe Co, Nev - 1 adult flew from a tree top bordering a small wet meadow of a Galena Cr. tributary. July 18 L Van Norden, 6770 ft., Placer & Nevada Cos., Calif - 1 adult cirled high over broad meadow E of lake -> went on N. July 19 U.S. Route 40, Emigrant Gap to Auburn, Placer Co., Calif 3 seen during late a.m. from car - apparently it is commoner at these lower elevations (transition zone) than in Donner Pass region high up. [July 23] - Freel Peak, 10,900 ft., Eldorado & Alpine Cos., Calif - 1 ad. was seen circling over the peak, above timber line, by others with me [Geo Treidel, John Bristow] July 27 Little Truckee Cr., 5800 ft., 3 mi. E, 5 mi. N Hobart Mills, Sierra Co., Calif - 1 circling over sagebrush & grass & willows of river valley between forested slopes.
