Aug. 23- 4580 ft., 1 1/4 mi. N Steamboat Sprgs., Washoe Co., Nev.
6 were perched low in rows of cottonwoods
along a ditch by dry grassy field - appar-
ently gathered by a carcaass. One flew up
from the ground nearby & 1 was flying
over sagebrush slope of Stege Grade a few
mi. SE of here.
Little Washoe Lake, 5020 ft., Washoe Co., Nev.
about 5 soaring over valley, which
now has extensive marshes in a very
dry condition.
Summary:
The observations above indicate a
greater restriction of nos. to desert-
type of vegetation than we found
to be the case in 1948. Foraging birds
were seen over dense forests of both
Lake Tahoe & Donner Pass areas in 48,
same year.
