June 27 Little Washoe Lake, 5020 ft., Washoe Co. [illegible] - over 100 present, far more than the few we saw at this same time of year in 1948. The lake is a foot or two higher than then.
The 20+ which were on the open part of the lake flew as soon as we stopped our 4 cars on shore; + the 80+ which were in the closer part of the marshy S arm of the lake all flew when we (group of 20 people) appeared on that shore some 500 ft. from them. Both sexes were numerous, but I did not have time to check ratios.
July 12 - none identified today; but we visited only the N-end of the lake & most of the ducks were in marshy S arm.
July 26 about 150 est.; all flying en masse from lake as we came out on peninsula between it & marshy S arm.
Aug. 23 about 70 seen on the lake (S arm is now almost dry) which is now weed-filled & not over 6 to 8 feet deep in deepest parts. adults [adult plumage]. Many were apparently incapable of flight altho with primaries quite well developed. Other 4+ were very demonstrative when I neared their broods of 1/3 to 1/2 grown young, but were able to take off after I chased them.
