Anas cyanoptera
June 25 Sierra Valley, 4880-4950 ft., Sierra Co., Calif. - about 8-10
flushed in groups of 2 & 3 as we walked across wet
pastureland.
June 27 Little Washoe Lake, 5020 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. - about 30 seen,
88 & 94 flocking together, in escape flight at least.
The most numerous of the dabblers here today.
July 12 About 10 in one small flock of ducks which stayed
closer
on S shore while we were on N shore. There
may have been many more present among
many ducks which flew away.
July 26 about 40 seen in marshy S end of lake,
at least 2 & 4 putting on extended display displays when I walked among the many
young ducks [some mallards, some teal].
Aug. 6 North Washoe L., 5010 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. - Group of
3 (1 recognizable as male, all but not in full, bright
plumage) flying over drying marshes just N of the lake.
Aug. 9 Little Washoe L., 5020 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. - about 70
present now, everywhere on the lake except
the S. arm which is practically dry now.
Aug. 23 200 + present now, altho the lake is still
smaller a completely weed-filled (Potamogeton,
Polygonum amphibium, etc.). The increase in
nos. must be due partly to influx.
