Cogswell 1950 Anas acuta June 25 - Sierra Valley Ranch 4880 ft. 1 mi. W 7 mi. N Sierraville, Sierra Co., Calif. A ? flew from a NEST containing 8 eggs, and with only a weak diversionary display disappeared into marshy pastureland. The nest is situated on dry grassy island of about 2 acres extent, with marshland of sedges and grasses all about. There is a 1/2 acre fenced area on the highest part of the island, the nest being just within the barbed wire fence. (my neg. # 50-4-7) June 27 Little Washoe Lake, 3020 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. - 3+ seen in flight (several times) over marshy S arm of this 30 acre lake. July 26 about 20 seen in same area. Aug. 6 N. end Washoe L., 5010 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. - about 50 (commonest duck) in drying marshes, on the two small pools open on lake shore. Aug. 7 Boca Res., 5560 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 1? on shallow bay near small grassy swale. Aug. 9 Little Washoe L., 5020 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. - about 50 present now, all able to fly well, all in dull plumage. Many of them are apparently immigrants from breeding grounds elsewhere. Aug. 21 Crossen Cr., 5650 ft., 1 1/2 mi. E, 3 1/2 mi. N Truckee, Nevada Co., Ca 1? flying downstream over narrow valley of dry grassland along winding gravelly stream. Aug. 23 Little Washoe L., 5020 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. - numbers still going up, altho lake is receded greatly; now being weed filled all the way across. Est. 150 (all in dull plumage) seen today.
