Aug. 17 I. Van Norden, 6750 ft., Placer + Nevada Co., Calif. - flock of 21, all in full plumage, feeding in shallow water over sedgey bottom along N shore.
- Little Truckee R. valley, 3 mi. E, 5 mi. N Hobart mills, Sierra Co., Calif. - 2 females flushed from tall, bunchy grasses near winding stream. There is little or no "marsh" left here now, altho the 200-300 acre grassy valley was obviously quite wet earlier in the season.
Aug. 21 Crosser Cr., 7 1/2 mi. E, 3 1/2 mi. N Truckee, Nevada Co., Calif.
1 immature (proper speculum, but small) was flying downstream accompanied by a ? Pintail !!
The region is similar to the last - dry grass near stream.
Aug. 23 Little Washoe L., 5000 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. - 300 est. on the weed filled lake, now not over half the size it was in June. Some broods of young still following & , but all large enough to fly, or at least spatter over the surface.
