Cogswell 1950 Anas platyrhynchos June 20 Lake Van Dornen, 6770 ft., Placer & Nevada Co., Calif. - a pair alighted on east end (near inlet) of this B.Y. & E. reservoir during mid. a.m., 9 were seen [illegible] near a pine-covered island there in p.m. Mr. Gordon Hooley, a resident in the area, says that the species nests in some years on the island. He and his wife also both reported to me that 2 and 3 mallards were on land at a tiny spot of open water near the E. end of the lake in May 1950 when snow was still covering otherwise all the ground nearby as well as the ice-covered lake. June 22 Boca Reservoir, 5550 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 2 lone females flew from shallow bay bordered by short sedges & grasses. June 27 Little Washoe Lake, 5020 ft., Washoe Co., Nevada - an estimated 20 individuals on this 30+ acre lake in sagebrush + grass valley area. One & (possibly Hadwall) with brood of 6 downy young on the water. No nests were found in marshy S. arm of lake by Wilbur Twining who waded waist deep to get to, tules which were only three deep in early July 1948. No "greenheads" among those seen today. June 28 Boca Res. 5550 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 19 in same portion as on 6/22. July 9 S. end Lake Tahoe, E Camp Richardson, 6230 ft., Colorado Co., Calif. - about 10 females, all well spaced, were flushed up by 3 of us walking for 1 mile along the borders of the extensive tall tule marshes & adjoining wet grassland. Some put on a fair diversionary display. No males were seen. July 12 Little Washoe L. [see above] - number present among other ducks - very way.
