Alchmophorus occidentales
June 22 - Boca Reservoir, 5560 ft. Nevada Co., Calif. - 4 seen in
small bays along E. shore, near low marsh vegetation
at one spot. 2 were together (= paired ?).
June 27 Little Washoe L., 5030 ft. Washoe Co. Nevada - 1 seen on open
water of 30+ acre lake, + another slipping thru tall and
brotweed of shallow marshy arm of same lake
(probably nesting nearby).
July 11 Boca Res., 5560 ft. Nevada Co., Calif. - 3 on open
water near middle of reservoir.
July 12 Little Washoe L. [see above] - 3 + seen. 2 of
them engaged in a brief run along the
surface together (courting activity ?)
July 24 Boca Res. [see above] - close flock of 9, diving
frequently in deep water. This lake is
well supplied (by stocking?) with "whitefish".
July 26 Little Washoe L. [see above] - 5 on the lake
now, altho the water has receded markedly in a;
aug. 7 Boca Res. [see above] - flock of 7
aug. 9 Little Washoe L. [see above] - 2 (separate) seen.
aug. 23 - One seen by Dorothy Groner. The lake is now
reduced to a slimy mass of Botamogeton o
Polygonum amphibium over most of the area.
Lake now only about 15-20 acres in extent
& is only 3 ft. deep about 1/3 the way across.
