Cogswell 1948 34 Journal Dec.21 (p.4) Soda Lake has only a little water in the middle of a large alkali area. Scanning of all likely looking areas (those with anything resembling grass) revealed no cranes. The only birds recorded in the whole area, from NE of Soda Lake past its west shore to SE end of plain, were: Sparrow Hawk - 2 * Horned Lark - 2500 est. (3 large flocks) * Common Raven - 163 (counted), Mountain Bluebird - 10± Sagehead Shrike - 2 House Finch - 20± [at corral 2 mi. from Savannah Sparrow - 2 SE end of plain]. along Caspar Rd., 4 mi E o 1½ mi S of Port Hueneme, Ventura Co., Calif. (1-3 mi. from Laguna Mugu — salt water). Birds in Ventura Co. > Mugu Game "Preserves" [duck shooting clubs] were scanned from the road, only a few items of interest recorded under the following species accounts: Badwall Turkey Vulture White-tailed Kite Red-shouldered Hawk Peregrine Falcon Ring-necked Pheasant Tree Swallow Tri colored Blackbird
