Cogswell 1948 Journal 20 Dec. 5 (cont.) Miller from foot of Canyon Drive (Spruce St. entrance to Park) to E. and N. sides of Jewell L. -> return. Birds were notably active despite the rain, especially woodpeckers, bark foragers such as titmice, bush tits, kinglets, and quail. Water birds present were, of course, unaffected. The most conspicuous absences on our species list over those normally present here (as witness records in my roll book (above) brief visit here on Nov. 27) were the warblers (Audubon's & myrtle) and most of the sparrows & finches. Of the com- plete list of species (as entered in roll book) the following are noteworthy: *=entry in species act. Mallard - 15+ impairs Pintail 3+ Shoveller 1 pr. * Ring-necked Duck - 28, 17 Canvasback - 10+ * Lesser Scaup - 2 f * Am. (?) Golden-eye - 3 f * Calif.
