Passerella iliaca

Nov. 27 Jewell L. Tilden Park, Contra Costa Co., NE of
Berkeley, Calif. Fairly common in brush
along w shore and up the slope to the W,
judging from number of heavy "tchip"
calls heard. One bird watched for a few
minutes was eating berries of Rhus diversiloba
obtaining them as they hung on the leafless
bush by simply perching nearby and
reaching out for them with its neck extended.
One loss of balance occurred while I watche[d].

Jan. 30 - Marino Park at Stinson Beach, Marino, Calif.
about 5 seen here, mostly in brush
tangles along the ditched stream thru
the park. One seen at a range of about
8 feet had a very rich brown cast to
all the breast spotting[s] which coalesced
over the upper breast to form an irregular
mass of brown. The bill was dusky gray.
