Zonotrichia leucophrys sup.
oct. 8 - Oxford St. Experiment Tract, Berkeley, Calif.
A song heard repeatedly from at least
2 different birds which I do not recognize
as of proper pattern for either Z.l. gambeli
or Z.l. muttallii. I transcribe it thus:
say saw

1st 2 notes.

child chip
It is possible, I suppose, that this different
song pattern may distinguish birds from
another breeding locality — perhaps
within the realm of Z.l. pugetensis?
oct. 12 - University of California, Berkeley, Calif
Same sort of song as above heard from
bird in shrubbery S. of Life Sciences Bldg.
1949
apr. 3 - Asilomar, shore of Monterey Peninsula, Monterey, Ca
All birds on dune shrubs were active
in mid-day; males in full song. One
circuitous chase occurred over an area
about 80 ft. in diameter [the ♂ chasing a
bird which had not been singing (=♀); but
not at all vigorously].
