Cogswell 1949 Chondestes strigatus. 1. Feb.22 7 mi. SE of Livermore, att. Alameda Co., Calif. In a leafless bushy tree by the roadside at 2nd bridge across Arroyo Mocho there were at least 3 [illegible] singing (probably several more) steadily in typical chorus. I transcribed typical parts of the song of 1 bird which I had in view at the time: 0 0 0 0 tweet tweet tweet tweet treet chit cheen chip chip chip mmmmm R'dr'dr'dr. (low grating) chip tweet-up chip chip chip (as end of line 1) These parts were given in all different sequences. I could write down only about 4 or 5 notes at a time before losing track. Apr. 10- Jawbone Ranger Sta., 3400' alt., just W. of Jawbone Creek, Tuolumne Co., Calif. - 1 singing from bush in door- yard of cabin - a bit of suitable habitat in other- wise chaparral or yellow-pine forested area. -on Jawbone Ridge, about 3 mi. W. of the above locality: 2 were singing from few small bushes in center of lava area of grassland, much over-grazed, browsed area of this winter deer range. alt. about 4000'.
