Cogswell 1948 Spinus lawrencei Nov. 21 Lower Mahnke Ranch, 4 3/4 mi S o 1 mi. W of Kelseyville, Lake Co., Calif.. at least 27 or 29 with small flock of S. psaltria, which had been feeding on cabbage seeds (or others too I suppose) in over-matured frost-bitten garden. I first noted the Lawrences by hearing the "tink-oo" call-note while I was 300-400 ft. away near the creek. I came back to the garden and found the whole flock perched in small, near-leafless tree -- with the 4 Lawrence's slightly off to themselves above the green backs. All were then studied at about 40 ft. with 9x binoculars.
