Feb. 13: Point Reyes "peninsula", Marin Co., Calif.
Starting at the head of Drake's Estero where the road to Pt. Reyes crosses it, we began our search for the Starlings seen in this area by Bullion last Tuesday. By driving slowly along the road & checking every flock of blackbirds & meadowlarks seen; we progressed to the ranch NW of the head of Barrie's Bay & there found a flock of about 12-15 Starlings perched on the telephone wires & pole at the entrance road to ranch buildings. Several were in semi-glossy plumage, others seemed to be in the dull gray of the immature. All flew shortly after we got out of the car & disappeared over the hills to the SW. Our request to the rancher (owner's wife?) for collecting privileges was immediately & firmly denied.
Just N. of the Gallagher Ranch, further toward the "point", another flock of 15-20 Starlings were seen in flight & on the ground at a distance. Gallagher also refused us admittance to his property — tho was much friendlier & seemed interested in our project. We left a request for him to notify us if he shot a Starling himself — in order
