Troglodytes aedon
Dec.29 Dume Point, Los Angeles Co., Calif. - I seen
well in short scrubby (lupine?) bushes
at top of sea cliff on outermost part of
point. It was giving the same call note
which I just learned on the 27th at Los
Angles : a rasping bzeeee, similar
in duration to a gnatcatchers (blue-gray) note
but lower pitched, harsher, - not so petu-
lant.
Dec.30-5 end of Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo Co., Calif.
I seen (or heard giving same call) in sparse
scrub growth on slope of high dunes
between bay & open ocean beach.

Jan.30 Marin Co. Park at Stinson Beach, Marin Co., Calif.
The same "bzeeee" call note described
on Dec.29 was heard several times from brush
piles & vines around base of trees. I finally
located the bird and saw it give the call
once - it was a House Wren all right
& in this area, behaving much like those
that winter at San Gabriel River Wildlife
Sanctuary in Southern California - keeping
close to the ground in the now nearly
leafless tangle.
[Jan.31 - I note that neither avifuna # 27 nor
# 18 mention any winter records for this sp.
from Marin Co. & "arrival" is usually in late March]
