1948 Chamaea fasciata 1. Nov.21 Upper Mahube Ranch, 7 mi. S & 1+ mi. Wkeleyville, Lake Co., Calif. A few songs and more frequent "k.mrn." sing notes disclosed a number in this chaparral, which in general aspect is quite like my study area above Arcades, Los Angeles Co., Calif. when tits are, however, either less abundant here, or, greater silence at this time of year makes them more difficult to find. Nov.27 Jewell L. Tilden Park, Contra Costa Co., NE of Berkeley, Calif. - an estimated 15 heard, and a few of them seen, in chaparral on slope w. of pond. Most of them were simply calling "kmmr". Several typical & type songs were heard; only 1 full J song. Dec.18 Tomales Point, Marin Co., Calif. 2 ?? heard "singing" from bush. lupine & Baccharis chaparral on slopes less than 1 mi from outermost (N.W.) end of point. Dec.26- Mt. Wilson, alt. 5730', San Gabriel mts., Los Angeles Co., Calif. - Both J & ? type of song heard from E steep ridge (chaparral covered) 1000 ft. or so below Echo Pt. There was a little snow on the ground where the birds were singing, & the temperature where we were (on Echo Pt.) was approximately 28°F, with an occasional stiff wind gust from SE.
