Cogswell 1948 Darus inornatus Oct. 8 N. of Life Sciences Bldg., Univ. of Calif. Berkeley which had been calling repeatedly from broad leaved trees was once seen flycatching out to a point some 20-30 feet from the upper canopy of the trees. 1949 Apr. 1 - 55 Canyon Rd., S. side lower Strawberry Canyon, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. - one carrying nesting material into a (natural?) cranny 5 ft. up on N. side of trunk of a 15-20 ft. Sambucus tree by water hydrant at this address. The nest site is well shaded by dense live oak canopy. A J titmouse sang nearby. Apr. 24 - Arroyo Mocha, SE. Livermore, Alameda Co., Calif. a pair are making frequent visits to a cavity in the heartwood of broken off limbs of Quercus douglasii about 10 ft. up, though whether carrying anything in bell I could not determine. The spot is at 8.70 mi. marker (from junction of Mines & Tesla Rdls.) - about 10 mi. SE. of Livermore., at alt. of . This species' song was the most frequent bird voice heard all the way from the lower wash to well up on final slope of Mt. Hamilton itself.
