Corvus corax
Dec.20.
approx.
21 mi. S. Mendota, Fresno Co., Calif.
a flock (or perhaps I should say
an aggregation) of about 80 was
on the ground near hi. tension lines
until we drove up. They did not
appear to be feeding, & the country
is so barren I don't see what there
would be for so many to eat anyway.
[See also in journal, reference to this sp. and
golden Eagle].
Dec.21. Carrizo Plain, southeastern San Luis Obispo Co.,
Calif.: 163 seen (by actual count) during our
drive from point where [illegible] road from McKittrick
comes out on the alluvial fan on east side
of the valley to SE end of the plain. The
largest group seen "together" was 50 —
at a ranch house, where some were walking
about among chickens not more than 20 ft.
from some of outlying ranch buildings
& certainly within gunshot range of the
house!
