Coquell 1949 Colaptes cafer Feb.22-Uniondd. o Honker Lake Tracts, western San Joaquin Co., Calif. - a seemingly unusual number of flickers were far out in the open fields here today. at least 20-25 flew up from the roadsides (especially where road built on dikes) at points where no trees were within a 1/2 mile radius. Many of them would fly out across the flat fields & alight on a clod of earth! Apr.24- Arroyo Tracho, "wash", 1 1/2 mi. SE. of Livermore, Alameda Co., Calif. one flushed from hole in Sycamore; the nest (?) hole being on the "downdhill" side of a slanting dead stub - about 10 ft. above ground.
