Selasphorus sasin
Mar. 13 Upper Strawberry Canyon (N. facing slope), Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. There are at least 3's of this species holding territory along the road which continues beyond end of Panoramic way. Each one defended 1 or more bushes of Ribes sanguineum which are now in full bloom. One of them drove off a trespassing ? Selasphorus rufus by repeated surges after him. Both this one and others were seen in the "muptial" flight of this type.
and at least 1 definitely identified (by green back) as S. sasin was seen to perform a different type:
reverse repeat 2 or 3 times
screaming sound along here.
