Cogswell 1948 Journal 15 Nov. 21 (cont.). Knob cone pines occur in patches on NE facing slopes above the ranch. Madroves Lawrel, and Torrey's californica also near or above the 2500' level — but most of them quite small: like all th chaparral hereabout, was in process of recovery after various fires set by ranchers to try to open up the brush land. adenostoma probably most widespread shrub, then at least 2 sp. of ceanothus, 1 sp. of manzanita, and various "scrub" or spiny-leaved live-oaks and some mtn. mahogany. I took 2 photo- graphs — 1 of upper Kelley Cr. canyon from ranch house area, & 1 of Clear Lake from upper ridge.
