Cogswell 1948 Larus californicus Nov. 3. University of Calif., Berkeley, Alameda C., Calif. 17:45 - During sunny period after the rains of yesterday and this morning there must have been a crop of insects of some kind come out on the lawns. About 8 gulls of this species were walking rapidly across the steep lawn N. of West Entrance and making sudden lunges to one side or the other after the insects (?) in the grass. Nov. 4 - 07:50 - a similar group foraging similarly just inside West Entrance. [The attraction for these birds later found to be probably earthworms].
