Rallus longirostris
Oct. 31— Bay Farm Id., Alameda, Alameda Co., Calif.
One rounded a pile of 3 logs in salicornia
marsh along NE side of Island Road and skulked
along from path of vegetation to another not over
50 ft. from us for a few moments. Dr. Miller
squeaked slightly and it hurried around to far
side of logs from us and out into salicornia there.
Five of us then set out to flush it; but despite
the fact that we tramped all the way across
the salicornia area (a distance here of about 150 ft.)
twice in fanned-out formation we did not see
the bird again.
