Cogswell 1948 Journal 10 Nov. 13 Jewel Lake & vicinity Tilden Regional Park Berkeley, Contra Costa, Alameda Co., Calif. 3:10-3:35 P.M.- I walked down the bridle trail on W. of Wildcat Creek from gate about 1/8 mi. S. of lake to lake - around to N. end of lake (at dam). return. I did not see the Hooded Mergansers reported there recently by several members of the local Audubon Society. The trees and shrubs along the trail proved to be rich in bird life, however - seemed to be more so than any place I have yet been in the Berkeley Hills. The following species were recorded: Steller's Jay-1 Scrub Jay-5+ Bush-tit- heard Wren-tit- 5+ heard Robin- 1+ * Varied Thrush - 6+ Hemnit Thrush- 1 heard * Golden crowned Kinglet-3+ Ruby-crowned Kinglet- 15+ * Myrtle Warbler-3 Audubon's Warbler- 1 heard Pine Siskin- 2+ heard Fox Sparrow-2 ? Lincoln's Sparrow-1 heard (dry "chick" call) Song Sparrow-several heard, hundred of oak moths out. likely Fox Sparrow (Nov. 27)
