Feb. 5 (cont.) plus outlying smaller flocks in other
fields nearby easily totalled 25,000 birds
—the most I've seen in 1 place since
the duck boom days of 1941-42 (or since
our willows refuge trip in Dec. 1945, when
they were concentrated on the refuge during
hunting season).
July 3: N. end of Elkhorn Slough, 3 ¾ mi. S. of Watsonville,
Monterey Co., Calif. Flock of 30±, all in dull
plumage, flew over slough at height of 200' ft.
