Coqswell 1948 Philacte canagica Dec. 18 Tomales Bay, Marin Co., Calif - Just at dusk (about 5:45 P.M., C.D.S.T.) as we passed N.E. of Hog Id. enroute back to boat landing, Harry Adamson spied a bird among the raft of coots which made him almost speechless. But he managed to at least whisper "Emperor Goose" and soon those in the front boat were screaming about it. Dr. Miller had cut the motor, and we in the boat being towed asked "where?" Soon I picked it out as it sat on the water very close to us. Even in the dim light the bluish body with white flecks showing, pure white head and black fore-neck could be seen. It soon flew, what with all the noise we made, and all of us saw its yellow feet plainly -- and all those present added a new species to their acquaintance.
