Cogswell 1949 Plegadis mexicana 90 ft. Dec. 11 3 mi. SE Gustine, Merced Co., Calif. - a flock of about 20 individuals flew up and circled about when a marsh hawk flew low over them. They soon settled down again into tall grass and young tules of an area of marshy d. lands in a shallow pond. With a particularly favorable angle of light the green sheen of their upperparts was very prominent. They were scarcely visible to us when down in the marsh, however. Good views of them in the air were obtained by Dr. Miller & 6 members of his ornithology class.
