Nycticorax nycticorax
Oct. 17 - Point Richmond, Contra Costa Co., Calif.
11:10 - a single "quok" call heard from top of
eucalyptus trees in yard between 125 Western Dr.
and small sandy beach. Miss Jacqueline Watkins
who lives at that address & is familiar with
the birds, say that about 10-12 of them roost
in the trees regularly except during the spring
and early summer.
1949
Nov. 21-23 - Hill Court Albany, Alameda Co., Calif.
every evening at dusk (white I've been confined to
the house by illness) a small group of 4 or 5
birds has flown over our house toward
the San Francisco Bay shore - calling "quok"
several times as they go. They apparently
roost during day in the Cypress trees between Codornices
Village & the Hill Experimental Tract, & fly
out to feed in the evening on the tidal flats.
Dec. 4. Gray Lodge Refuge, S.W. Butte Co., Calif. - an
estimated 400 or more were resting in
& on cat tails of pond within loop road
closest to refuge headquarters. This is,
I believe, the largest concentration I have
ever seen at one place.
