Cogswell 1948 Journal 7 Oct. 30 - N. of "Golden Gate Fields" racetrack, E. shore of San Francisco Bay, Richmond-Albany bdy., Calif. 11:35-11:50 AM., with tide exceptionally high (nearly all driftwood in salicornia floating!) I made a count of shorebirds from my car, starting along cove N of base of Pt. Isabel & ending at base of Fleming Pt. (Golden Gate Fields). Other species along the shore next to highway were estimated. Noted the tremendous decrease in numbers over ebb tide conditions: (cf. Oct. 10) Red-breasted Merganser - 3 (fishing near cliffs of terms) Killdeer - 13 Willet - 100 (including 71 in 1 flock) Western Sandpiper - 1 Bonaparte's Gull - 15 +} together, on Forster's Tern - 80 +} row of posts near Fleming Pt. Great Blue Heron - 1 American Egret - 3 Oct. 31 - Bay Farm Island, Alameda, Alameda Co., Calif. 19:50-17:00 - with five other members of Dr. A. H. Miller's ornithology class, Prof. W. Storer, and Dr. Miller I looked over the birds to be seen from the N.W. shore of San Leandro Bay along Doolittle Drive and from Island Road further toward NNW. tip of Bay Farm Id. The weather was mostly low overcast, with sun breaking through for only a few minutes about 5:00 PM. An exceptionally high tide was just starting
