is apparently all in one direction;
but some 10 min. or so later the
whole flock may be going in the
opposite direction. This was
very evident tonight between 6:45
and 7:30 p.m., during which time I
watched whole flocks trace ellipti-
cal courses from just off the
rock at the N. side of the "Point" to a
mile or more along the wave crests
running approximately NE from there
and return. Some few individuals
turned around sooner, and for
a time some went on around
the Point and out of sight; but
many were seen to double
about several times. There is,
then, no simple migratory
movements along the shore going
on at present — or if so it
is obscured by frequent back-
tracking. I have a suspicion
that this whole flock masses some-
where off the peninsula to roost
on the water — but they were still
flying close off the point when it
was so dark I could barely see
them.
