Coggswell 1950 Journal 13 Apr.15 Pacific Grove, Monterey Co., Calif. - In early a.m. & again in late p.m. I went along the coast between Asilomar Conference Grounds & Pt. Pinos. Observations of birds there, combined with those of occasional intervals during the day in the pine woodland of the grounds themselves, are represented in the following list: Loon sp? - several Brown Pelican - " Brandt's Cormorant - abundant Belted " - several Am. Egret - 1 flying North ward over ocean Black-c. Night Heron - 2 Surf Scoter - many flying Red-breasted Merganser - 14, 2990 Turkey Vulture - 1+ Calif. Quail - 1 pr. near Lighthouse. Killdeer - several Black Turnstone - 60+ Hudsonian Curlew - 2 Least Sandpiper - 1000+ est. (in flocks of 50-200, all flying N along coast; no others so identified, altho some may have been included) Short-b. Dowitcher - 1 at (fresh water seep at base of sea bluff on sandy beach) Glaucous-winged Gull - several imm's. Western Gull - many Calif. Gull - several Casbian Tern - 1 Cm. Murre - 2 Selasphorus sp? - several Belted Kingfisher - 2 Acorn Woodpecker - several Hairy Woodpecker - 1 heard Violet-green Swallow - 10+, 1 pr. perched by nest-hole Scrub Jay - several Am. Crow - " Bush Tit - heard Pygmy Nuthatch - several Bewick's Wren - 1 singing Western Bluebird - 2+ Cedar Waxwing - 2+ flocks small Audubon's Warbler - 1 Jcan Pileolated Warbler - 1 heard late singing; seen House Finch - several Spotted Towhee - 2 singing Savannah Sparrow - 1+ on low herb growth near Beach. Oregon Junco - several Nuttall's White-crowned Singing Sparrow - several " Song Sparrow - 2 " Apr.16 Monterey harbor, by chartered 110 ft. boat to approx. 8 mi. WSW Pt. Pinos, & return, Monterey Co., Calif. - I went along on this Cooper Club field trip organized by Chas. Sibley. We went aboard at 8 a.m., sailed at 8:25, docked
