oct. 10 (cont.) At this stage of eff tide the ideal views
of even the smallest "peeps" are obtained by
sitting in the car and looking down at them.
municipal Fishing Pier, Berkeley, Calif.
10:00 - 11:00 — while son Denis fished from
near end of open part of pier (½ way out or so)
Bessie and I watched birds that passed. Notes
entered in species accounts for:
Phalacrocorax auritus
melanitta perspicillata
We then drove via the Bay Bridge to San Francisco,
Daly City and Highway #1 to :
"Shelter Cove" just N of San Pedro Point, San Mateo Co., Calif.
12:00 - 12:40 — We parked at end of road on side of
cliff which runs on out to the point and
watched through increasingly foggy atmosphere
over the ocean below. Chief items of interest:
Pelecanus occidentalis
melanitta perspicillata
Larus heermanni
which see in species accounts.
Princeton (N end of Half-moon Bay), San Mateo Co., Calif.
13:30 - 16:15 — while Denis fished again (+ caught 5 perch)
we watched for birds from the southernmost of the
2 piers, and later walked a short distance
along the beach to the south. Observations
of interest on the same 3 species as last above
and also :
1 - Sterna hirundo (or paradisaea ?) → species acct.
