Dec. 22 Glendora, Los Angeles Co., Calif. (cont'd)
Monroe Canyon on a map which is 1/8 mi. to the W.
I investigated areas along the 3100 ft. contour
level trail on the N.E. facing slope. There are
semi. barren ("sagebrush"), adenostoma-Cerco-
carpus-Ceanothus crassifolius, and scrub
oak - Ceanothus - [illegible] types -- several
possible areas here.
Birds were more
active here in mid p.m., warblers & Calif.
thrushers singing; Scrub Jay, Bush Tit,
Red-tailed Hawk, & Fox (?) Sparrow noted.
In the dirt road or firebreak on the ridge
1/8 mi. from the paved Glendora Mt. road
we found a measured several tracks
of a Mountain Lion [see sp.acct].
Several
Brush Rabbits were seen in the less dense
chaparral or "sagebrush" areas.
Dec. 23 This q.m. I investigated some chanise-
sagebrush - sage areas on the lower slopes
of the mountains due N of Glendora. These
are comparable to a medium height
- medium density chaparral, though
really in an [illegible] ecotone zone
between true sagebrush & true chapar-
ral. I reached the trail (Engelwith Canyon)
from the Snidow Ranch, but found later it
would be more convenient from end of the
road just to the east in the mouth of the
canyon - This seems to be the most accessible
extensive area of ungrazed sagebrush nearby.
