Cogswell 1949 Journal 41 May 8 Mariposa Grove Big Trees Yosemite Nati Park, Calif. alt.6500' (contd). We left the area about 12:10 after having taken several photos, and noted the ff. vertebrates: Dendrocopos villosus - 1 heard Cyanocitta stelleri - 2 " Sitta canadensis - 1 " Certhia familiaris - 1 " singing Dendroica auduboni - 1 " + 1(other?) calling Hesperiphora vespertina - many in the tree tops, to judge by the calls emanating therefrom. Both the rattle and the wheezy whistle notes were frequent. I saw 1♂ at close range. I took 15 min. tour of immediately adjacent Ceanothus cordulatus? thicket and conifer forest + walled from road as we ate.
