6500', Calif. - we drove here, without stops, from Bass
Lake, arriving about 11:00 AM. There is still snow
in all protected sites under the trees -- up to 3-4'
deep in some. Road apparently only recently opened.
No herbaceous growth noted near the road, along which
my observation was restricted, interrupted from time to
time by driving the car + adjacent snowball fight by others
of class.
