Drove here via Walnut Creek, Dublin, Tracy, Uremalis,
Modesto & S. along highway U.S. 99 to Madera (at dark).
Then up to the Range after dinner, arriving about
9:15 P.M. One Lepus californicus crossed highway
41 in front of car on or near the Range. A pair
of Bubo virginianus called from oaks near head.
Quarters of the Range about 11:30 P.M. Enroute
across the valley this P.M. the ff. species were commonest
roadside birds (in decreasing abundance): Brewer's and
Red-winged Blackbirds, English Sparrow, West. Meadowlark,
House Finch, West. Kingbird, Sparrow Hawk
