Cogswell 1949 Journal 26 Mar. 26 - Edgeman, coast of San Mateo Co., Calif. - for about an hour in mid-morning we worked over the dunes here, studying vegetation for Zoo 125. Vertebrates seen incidental to this were: Zonotrichia leucophrys muttallii - 3+ scolding us from Lupinus chamissonis bushes on inner dunes - as tho they had nests nearby. Microtus sp? - 1 about 5-6" in length, tail included, scuttled under grasses at edge of one patch of bush. Many Larus glaucescens, Larus occidentalis (few), and 1 flock of 30+ unidentified, large, brown shorebirds were seen flying up the beach. - 2 mi. S. of San Pedro Point, San Mateo Co., Calif. - while working here for about 1 ½ hrs., making a transect study of sagebrush slope (N.W. facing) for Zoo 125, I heard the following birds: Thryomanes bewickii, Chamaea fasciata, Vermivora coletta (1 each, all in repeated songs), & several Zonotrichia leucophrys (scolding). - Moss Beach, San Mateo Co., Calif. - from our lunch stop (on beach rocks just above high water line) the commonest gull was Larus glaucescens; a few L. occidentalis & Larus sp.? were seen, as well as 1 swallow (Petrochelidon ?). - 4 mi. S. of Half Moon Bay (town), San Mateo Co., Calif. In a small, unkempt cemetery here, which is reverting to sagebrush-shapervall mixture, one &
