Cogswell 1948 Journal Dec. 30. San Luis Obispo and 2 mi. SW to vicinity of Laguna School, San Luis Obispo Co., Calif. Starting the daytime coverage of the Morro Bay Christmas Bird Count area at 8:20 A.M. we worked along fields with weedy borders and along 2 short stretches of willow bordered stream beds for about 1 1/2 hrs. with 1/2 hr. or so more around the cemetery at edge of town. The complete list of birds counted (see my roll book) includes a few noteworthy items: Red-breasted Con. Sapsucker - 1 on pepper tree of row of such trees around cemetery Robins, west. Bluebirds, Waxwings - in flocks around the cemetery; these were only ones of those species seen in the area. They fed both on the pepper tree berries, and on pyracantha berries from sprigs which had been placed on graves. Audubon Warbler - [see sp. account] Tri-colored Blackbird - " " Brown-headed Cowbird - " " - Los Osos Valley, 6 mi. W or 1 mi. N of San Luis Obispo, S.L.O. Co., Calif. - a single 30+ acre plowed field with some standing water contained an estimated 250 Killdeer and 600 Black-bellied Plover. 3 Snipe were also flushed from the grass along the small creek by a red-tailed hawk which stooped from trees near Los Osos School
