Eastman, F. H. 1960 Journal Vegetational Notes 12 April [856] Pinto Basin Riverside Co. Cal. = through a rocky pass of boulders 200 yds wide, up a gradient, swinging to SSW into another broad basin. [856 ½] Smoke Tree wash, many small smoketrees of which a considerable number appear dead. [857] an area of Chilopsis in leaf [the least leafed out that we have seen so far], dense shrubs and tall Larrea - a denser, closer cover of shrubs of many species, especially to S. Mixed Shrub area. Kelly to the east (Eagle Mountains) and a basin to the west. [859] up a hill (rocky) with good stand of Y. mahanensis, with Onto a broad upland fan. Larrea is minor here. Few foils and many small shrubs - one is a buckwheat. [860] DOR redsacer - 4 mi. a live one. Most of the P. mahanensis is in flower. [861] an open area with many Y. mahanensis & most shrubs appear dormant or dead. One half open in a sandy gravel. [862] into low hill, with juniper. turn to E to Coltonroad Spring. mixed shrubs with Larrea minor, up a canyon & low rocky hills. foils abundant & Y. mahanensis. [863] About 20 cars at parking area at Spring - turn around. [864 ½] back onto highway [869] White-throated Swifts flown. in this general area we saw of meadow larksbly, [875] ½ mi. + N, into basin are several patches of Ocatillo
