Christman, G.H. 1963 Empidax 4 June Weldon Forest -- Sheep Range, Clark Co., Nev. on hillside with NE exposure - 1 1/2 mi. SE of camp in same drainage -- elevation close to 9,000 ft. Area of abies canescens and few large snags & small Pinus ponderosa. Number 942 was watched & chased for almost an hour. During this time it sang from the tops of firs and pine snags from 25' to 75' from the ground. The call was "split Tee" or "split-tee-gee". The calls were repeated at 3-5 second intervals for between 5-10 minutes, then was quiet for almost five minutes. It flew from snag perch to snag perch frequently while singing. The area covered with during this activity was vague but was at least 50 yards long -- on contours of slope, and apparently not as wide -- up-down slope. # 938 was shot up hill & over other side from the above locality. It was shot out of a pine - here grand & a stand of dead brush.
